It wasn’t my most productive week, but I did make a few artistic attempts, along with some progress in other areas. Here’s my first weekly art update.
Peacock feather doodle
Inspired by this amazing piece of art, I made a doodle. I worked on it for about 45 minutes each evening this week, and I decided to stop before it was completely saturated with doodles. Although I want to, I haven’t added color, because I feel that my watercolor skills are vastly inferior to my doodling skills, and I didn’t want to wreck the kinda neat doodle I’d made. I may add color later, after I’m more practiced with watercolor.
Watercolor backgrounds
Speaking of watercolor, I did a little playing around this week. Some of them I made this week, and a few are a bit older, but I just now got around to taking pics of them. I was playing around with color and different techniques, getting used to the brush on the paper, without any real outcome in mind. I plan to doodle over these watercolor backgrounds at some point. Sometimes it’s nice to have a non-white page to start on.
Filling up Pinterest
This probably falls more into the procrastination category than actual art making. But I did spend some time cleaning up pictures of past art I’ve made, and watermarking them, and putting those up on my art board. So technically, it counts as graphic design practice. Ha! I also added more pins to various other boards, reminding myself how awesome Pinterest is. So many great artistic people out there!
Blog tweaks
This one’s probably not noticeable to anyone who hasn’t been obsessively obsessing about every little aspect of my website. I re-worked and slimmed down the categories and cleaned up a couple things. I also changed out my profile picture, because that boring posed one just wasn’t me. Despite all the blogging advice I’ve read that says you must have a lovely professional photo, it’s just not me. I cringed every time I saw it. I’m also planning to add a Resources tab at some point, so I started thinking about what I might want to be on there.
The Real Victory: What I Didn’t Do
I didn’t do any obsessing over my blog and how it’s not perfect. I didn’t think about keywords or lead magnets or anything else blog-related except for how this blog can support and document my art journey. I didn’t waste hours crafting beautiful images for this blog post that are optimized for every social media outlet (mainly because my internet kept pooping out every time I logged in to PicMonkey). I didn’t worry (too much) about how time is passing me by and I’m not using every moment of every day to learn every single thing I want to learn. Instead of those things, I focused on where I am, and what tiny steps I can take right now to move forward. I call that a win.
